The Gullah people who live on Edisto Island continue to fish, dig for clams and set crab traps. The Gullah fisherman’s legacy is one we cannot dismiss in the South Carolina Lowcountry. The inspiration for this painting of my own was one by African American artist Ellis Wilson, whose work continues to inspire me. His painting was done on plywood in 1945, and is called End of the Day, Man with a Fish. This tiny painting is 4×8″.
